Sustainability

PAC Australia acknowledges we are in the midst of a climate emergency and is committed to taking meaningful steps towards a brighter future for our planet. We stand in solidarity with those advocating for immediate climate action and believe that positive steps must be taken by all members of the community to create lasting change.

The Reforest Initiative

PAC Australia is proud to continue our partnership with Reforest Australia, building on our successful collaborations for APAX Cairns (2023) and APAX Melbourne (2024). Reforest Australia is a Queensland-based social enterprise, drives authentic climate and nature-positive action by planting trees in high-quality, local reforestation projects.

When registering for APAX, you will have the option to ‘purchase a tree’ to offset your share of the event’s emissions.

In 2023, APAX supported tree planting in the critically endangered Mabi Forest in the Atherton Tablelands, near Cairns. In 2024, our efforts contributed to reforestation in the Widgewah Sanctuary, located 90 minutes north of Melbourne, Victoria, supporting the habitat of the Southern Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby. In 2025, we are excited to continue this important work by supporting reforestation in the Nightwings Daintree Restoration project in Queensland.

You can track the impact of the trees purchased through PAC Australia’s dedicated Reforest event dashboard, which includes trees planted since APAX 2023 and 2024.

Sustainability at APAX 2025

We encourage everyone joining us at APAX 2025 to adopt sustainable practices in the spirit of caring for the Earth and promoting eco-friendly habits within our industry. Here are some simple suggestions to help reduce our environmental impact:

  • Say no to single-use plastics.
  • Bring a reusable coffee cup or water bottle.
  • Consider digital note-taking (e.g., on your phone or tablet, or using a voice memo app).
  • Walk, carpool, or rideshare to the venues.
  • Take public transport—or even ride a bike! Learn more about Getting Around during APAX.
  • Opt for digital resources (programs, venue guides, etc.) or minimal printed collateral where possible.

We understand that many of our delegates will be travelling long distances to attend APAX. As part of our commitment to reducing emissions, we will ask delegates to provide basic travel details so we can better understand APAX’s environmental impact and guide future initiatives. If you’re travelling from outside Darwin, we recommend:

  • Choosing to offset your carbon emissions when booking flights. As most emissions occur during takeoff and landing, avoiding connecting flights when possible will reduce your impact.
  • If you prefer not to use APAX’s carbon offset option, consider using Greenfleet Australia or another carbon offset provider certified by the Clean Energy Regulator to offset emissions from your travel and attendance.
  • If you need to hire a vehicle, opt for an electric or hybrid model, and try to share the vehicle with others.
  • Be mindful when choosing accommodation.
  • Pack tote bags and reusable produce bags for groceries and shopping.
  • Bring a travel cutlery set and food container to avoid packaging and takeaway containers.
  • Check out the Green Touring Toolkits from Arts on Tour for great ideas to reduce your impact while you’re on the road.

PAC Australia’s Sustainability Commitment

In addition to encouraging these practices, PAC Australia is committed to sustainability throughout the event:

  • Offering plant-based catering options whenever possible.
  • Significantly reducing print materials and prioritising digital distribution.
  • Ensuring name badges are made from recycled materials and avoiding other single-use plastics.
  • Contributing to Reforest Australia and offsetting all staff travel emissions.
  • Measuring the carbon footprint of the event and delegates.
  • Ensuring that any leftover food is responsibly redistributed through local food services or composted by our catering partners.
